Deciding Products To Sell
Before you do anything, it’s important to decide what types of goods you’ll sell online.
Whatever you choose, it’s important to work with products that you like or you’re passionate about.
Chances are, you’ll be working with these products day in and day out, so make sure it’s something that won’t easily bore you in the future.
Building Your Online Store
Now, let’s begin building your store.
Visit Shopify and click on the Get started button to start your 14-day free trial.
Input your email address, choose a password, then enter your store name. After you entered all desired information, click on the Create your store button.
Shopify will process your application, then it will automatically create your store.
After that, you’ll be asked to enter some information about yourself, your address, contact details, and etc.
Just quickly fill up all required information, and click the Enter my store button.
You will be then redirected to your store dashboard.
To view how your store look like, click the eye icon.
That’s it! Your store is now live.
You are now ready to customize your store and add your first product.
Customizing Your Store
Choose a theme for your store by going to Online Store » Themes. At the bottom, you can browse for free themes, or even buy premium themes from the Shopify store.
You can always change your theme, so you may want to choose a free theme just for now.
You can fully customize your store by clicking the Customize button at the top.
You can add your first product by going to Products » All products, then clicking the Add product button.
While adding a product, you can provide several information about it. You can put its description, the product type and its vendor, pricing, and etc.
Just play on the product’s details and settings, and adjust it as much as you like.
Shipping & Taxes
You can also change your shipping and taxes preference by going to the Settings tab.
In there, you can also manage your payment providers and notification settings.
I suggest you visit all the menu, and modify it to match your liking.
All your orders are found in Orders » All orders tab.
Unfortunately, you still can’t sell and receive orders if you haven’t selected a plan.
I suggest you to use the 14-day trial period to customize your site and to add products. Your progress won’t be lost when your trial is over and you selected a plan.
Buying A Domain
Your current domain contains a .shopify extension. To remove that, you can buy a new domain name.
A .com domain will make your store more professional, then people will more likely to buy from you.
To buy a new domain, just go to Online Store » Domains, then click the Buy new domain button.
View an in depth analysis of your store by going to the Analytics tab.
You can see the number of people who visited your site, your total sales for a certain period of time, your store’s conversion rate, etc.
You can also install apps will help you manage and grow your online business.
You can always install apps by visiting the shopify app store. Browse for apps and install the ones that you think you’ll need.
These are pretty much everything you need to know when starting an online store!
